Information about suitable ski and snowboard equipment:

“There is no bad weather in the mountains—only unsuitable equipment!”

What should I pay particular attention to when choosing equipment?

Clothing:

Wear good base layers that wick perspiration away from your body.

Your ski trousers and jacket should be windproof and water-resistant.

“Dress in layers”:
Dress warmly enough for the conditions, but avoid becoming too hot. Several thinner layers are best because you can add or remove clothing as needed. Mornings are often bitterly cold, yet it can become much warmer very quickly when the sun appears. Layering is therefore ideal. A small backpack is useful for carrying clothing you no longer need.

Wear smooth ski socks that extend above the top of your boots. The socks should be as dry as possible and it is best to put them on only shortly before going out into the cold, to avoid condensation. Please wear only ONE pair of socks. Multiple pairs reduce the space in your boots and restrict circulation, which inevitably leads to cold feet.

Protect your neck! Wear either a high-necked top or a fabric neck warmer that pulls over your head.

A fairly thin, close-fitting hat under the helmet is advisable and many guests find it comfortable. Balaclavas are also popular and protect the head, ears and neck from cold draughts.

Warm and, if possible, water-resistant gloves or mittens

Ski and snowboard equipment:

We recommend renting equipment locally or buying it from a local sports shop, where it can be exchanged if something does not fit. If you nevertheless wish to use equipment borrowed from relatives, you must have the bindings checked by a specialist shop before lessons begin. Please also ensure that the skis or snowboard are well waxed and that the edges are neither rusty nor badly scratched.

The most important points are passende Schuhe – appropriate for the participant’s ability and age!

Other important equipment:

A correctly fitting helmet (mandatory for children up to age 16)

Sunscreen (SPF 30) and protective cold-weather cream for cold days
